Local Adaptation Forum
Welcome. This forum is a gathering place for people all over Australia to discuss adaptation to climate change in the local government context. Local: everyone is local somewhere, and no two places are exactly the same. So we all share a common difference. In this forum, we encourage you to locate your commonalities and respect your differences. Every discussion represents an investment of time by those who participate. The basic principle is: be the change you want to see.
NCCARF at National General Assembly
***Please note that any replies to this address will be posted to the entire forum membership ****
Hello NCCARF Portal users
I will be attending the National General Assembly in Canberra (convened by ALGA) from the 19th June through to 22nd June. If anyone would like to meet with me in person please email me directly on d.burton[at]griffith.edu.au or contact me on my mobile 0435 041 385. I would love to meet with you to discuss the climate change adaptation issues and opportunities facing local governments and the role NCCARF can play in supporting adaptation research at the local level.
Critical Decade (for adaptation?)
Hello NCCARF Portal Users
Given the recent release of the Climate Commission's latest report which says we have a diminishing window of opportunity to reduce greenhouse gases - before runaway climate change- I thought I might ask the same question about adaptation. That is - what is the level of urgency required for adaptation planning in Australia - especially at the LGA level? Most planning mechanisms at present go out for at least 20 years - so do you think that they currently represent settlements that can manage the extreme weather and carbon constrained economy of 2030?

The NCCARF Local Government Portal is preparing to step out of beta testing stage and we would like to ensure that the final product best suits your needs. As such we would greatly appreciate it if you could please fill out the small (5 question) quick survey below. The survey will take approximately 1 minute to complete and all survey responses will remain anonymous.
All entries go into a draw to win a beautiful coffee table book "Old Growth: Australia's Remaining Ancient Forests" by Peter McConchie, worth $50.
feed the needfeed
Hello Portal users
NCCARF would like to know what information Local Governments actually need
to support your adaptation actions. Please click on the "needfeed" link
in the portal to let NCCARF know what your needs are. Is there anything
specific that you think is missing in the Portal? Can you think of a local
government specific topic that that needs more primary research? Let us
know. We are very interested in identifying the types of information
required, however undertaking this task is difficult without input from
you.
Cheers
Donovan
